Recycle4Charity

May 13, 2015

Members will have seen at rehearsals the envelopes of Recycle4Charity, who re-process our used inkjet cartridges and mobile phones and provide us with a small but steady input of funds in return.

We can no longer send mobile phones in these envelopes (a ruling by Royal Mail, not the recyclers). If you have a redundant mobile phone, please bring it down to rehearsal anyway and we can arrange despatch in more acceptable packaging.

(Please note that they do not accept Epson or Kodak cartridges).

David Eggleton

January 17, 2015

We sadly report the death of David Eggleton, a long-serving Tenor with the Society, although health problems had restricted his participation in recent terms. The funeral took place privately; a Memorial Service was held on Monday February 16th at 2pm, at which WCS made a small choral contribution.

Paula Tansley

September 23, 2013

We sadly report the death of one of our Sopranos, Paula Tansley. Paula’s appearances at rehearsals had been limited of late, presumably because of illness, but we nevertheless mourn her passing and express our condolences to her husband, family and friends.

Membership Sec. And Marathon Runner

April 23, 2012

.

Congratulations to our Membership Secretary Pam Allen, who completed the 2012 Virgin London Marathon in 19,786th place (614th woman),  in the highly creditable time for a non-specialist runner of 4 hours, 34 minutes, 37 seconds. Pam was running on behalf of Oxford I.M.P.S. (the Injury Minimisation Programme for Schools at the JR in Oxford (for more information about this charityvisit  www.impsweb.co.uk). Pam will be along at  rehearsals to collect pledges already made and will, we’re sure, accept late donations. We’re sure that she’ll also be happy to collect any of the (few) outstanding instalments of Society subscriptions too …

Creation, But An Ending Too

April 23, 2012

.
Thanks to all those who took part in, sold tickets for, or who helped out in any other way with, Wantage Choral Society’s performance of Haydn’s “Creation” in Wantage Civic Hall on Saturday March 31st.

The concert marked the end of Richard Smith’s seven-year term as Musical Director of the Society. The photo to the left shows Society Chairman Denise Davies presenting Richard (a keen art collector) with an original watercolour “The Ridgeway and the Rusty Fence” by Gus Mills, an artist based in East Challow, just down the road from Wantage.

Spring 2012 Concert — Almost Upon Us

December 6, 2011

.
We always try to make sure that our last Tuesday rehearsal before the concert (Tuesday 27th March) is held at the concert venue (Wantage Civic Hall), and this time is no exception. Society members: please ensure that you are in place, ready to sing, at 7.30pm. And as usual we have a concert-day rehearsal, starting for the chorus at 2.30pm.
